Our Approach

Skill, experience, patience, consistency
Unlike the vast majority of trainers in this field, we are full-time, living, and breathing dog culture 24/7 using a method that is extraordinarily simple and easy to use. As members of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers, we adhere to what the industry calls LIMA or the Least Intrusive Minimally Aversive method available. With patience and consistency all training can be accomplished with positive reinforcement. This path may seem to take slightly longer than the old and disproven styles that use fear and pain but are far more effective in the long run and create a strong and positive bond between humans and dogs that last a lifetime.
Using this style we can teach you how to communicate with your dog, reading and reacting to each other like family instead of reluctant roommates. In order to accomplish this we must train you and your dog together. Dogs are not machines and in order to reach your goals a bond must be forged between the human and dog.

The difference between people who just happen to work with dogs and people who truly understand how a dog behaves and communicates becomes so clear when you see it in action and the results firsthand; and the Leading the Leash team is definitely part of the latter.
Jeff has trained our dog Max since he was a puppy and has helped us address some significant behavioral issues. Jeff’s calm but confident demeanor was a great comfort for Max and for our family. We trust him completely and would recommend him without hesitation.
